What it does
Find a possible lake level around a point in a hollow. The action checks rings around that point, finds the lowest place on each ring, and keeps the ring with the highest spill level.
Connect a height field to Field and choose basin centres with Which points. The action writes the chosen level and radius under Level value name and Radius value name; use distinct names so you can read both afterwards. Run the action in Pass, then use the values to fill the hollow.
Start with a modest Maximum radius around a clear depression. The radius bounds the search rather than drawing a circular shoreline: the terrain decides the lake’s outline. Gaps between the checked positions can still let water escape.
Inputs and outputs
| Name | Type | Default | What it changes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Inputs | |||
| Which points | Point selector | The basin centres whose level and radius will be written. | |
| Field | Density | The height field read around each point, at that point’s Y. | |
| Settings | |||
| Level value name | Text | lake_level | The name used to store the chosen spill level on each point. |
| Radius value name | Text | lake_radius | The distinct name used to store the chosen ring radius. |
| Maximum radius | Real | 192.0 · 8–1024 | Higher values search for containing rims further from the point. |
| Rings | Integer | 4 · 1–16 | Higher values check more radii within the search area. |
| Samples per ring | Integer | 64 · 8–256 | Higher values check each ring more finely and can detect narrower low gaps. |
| Output | |||
| Output | Point action | The basin-measuring action to run in a Pass. | |
Good to know
Inspect narrow outlets
Raise Samples per ring when a lake appears to leak through a small gap. More checks reduce missed gaps, but take longer with a complex height field.
